these guys flew in all the way from ireland to attend acen. now that's dedication! i caught them outside the embassy suites where we had stayed as we were leaving monday. they were hanging out until thursday to also check out chicago. i suppose if i was coming a few thousand miles, i'd take a week off work myself.
by now, i've stayed in my fair share of mid-priced hotels, and i have to say the embassy suites in rosemont, illinois ranks among the best of them so far. not only did they have a far superior breakfast spread than most other hotels i've stayed in, they also had a two hour open bar every day. happy hour indeed, what service! i know these guys enjoyed it.

things have been tumultuous in my life lately, and these two songs recently popped up in my itunes. perhaps to help me along my way. times can be tough during periods of transition and uncertainty and i love the message of the songs, so i offer them to you in case you too need a little inspiration. i don't have the original song titles, so i'll call them "i believe" and "somebody". these were done by a close personal friend, one gifted spirit.

viet nam banh mi so 1

translates to "vietnam sandwich number 1". this is my other favorite vietnamese sandwich place in new york next to nicky's. i vacillate between loving one and the other. nicky's has an amazing portobello mushroom sandwich. banh mi so 1 has a great vegetarian tofu sandwich option. they also tend to be slightly larger sandwiches and slightly more authentic than nicky's.
i trekked all the way into chinatown the other day looking forward to the thought of having some banh mi from this place, but sadly, banh mi so 1 was closed for renovation. they said to come back in a few days. at least i'm happy to know they're growing.
