the solonova arts festival is currently running. it includes a series of late nite shows at mo pitkins. last saturday was burlesque with veronica sweet, ruby valentine, tangerine jones, and agent n, while miss rebecca sang.

solo arts festival opening night reception

terranova collective is hosting their 4th annual solo arts festival. i've really enjoyed the three shows i've seen so far. wammo on opening night, then dear dad, confessions of gogo and extraordinary vacancy.
anne goldman of extraordinary vacancy is a hugely entertaining performer and has, as i would describe it, "huge goddamn chops." go see her show, pack the house for her and you will be rewarded with a tremendous show. here's a video demonstrating her unbelievable busking skills with her husband in daredevil chicken.
monica west in dear dad, confessions of gogo also delivers greatness in her piece. absolutely touching. i really enjoyed the honesty she brings to her performance. read a history of the show and listen to some of the songs on her website.

homeward bound from rosemont, illinois to philly.

illinois, land of never-ending toll roads. no sooner past one toll booth then you're grabbing a ticket for the next. pretty weather. we caught a golden sunset on the ride back, led zeppelin blasting us down the highway.
a long drive, us going for the straight shoot. at about hour 13 or 14, our energy collapsed and we pulled over to the side of the road. windows down, morning sun heating the van up too cozy, parliament funkadelic or prince oozing from the radio. a half hour? an hour? later, too tired to notice, we woke up and gunned on the rest of the way home.
