i've been meeting some of the most amazing people ever. bright, vibrant, funny, collected, aware, growing. some would say these are the people i'm meant to run across. i say it's as easy as opening the phone book and calling that clown service. clowns rock!

catalina cruisin'

along with insects, spiders, okra, and the cold, i absolutely hate boats. so the only thing that could draw me out to catalina island (and the two and a half hour round-trip boat ride) was a treasure chest full of booty. barring that, i'll settle for some friends' birthday celebration.
catalina reminded me of the part in orson welle's "time machine" where the guy goes a million years into the future and comes across utopia, full of docile pretty young things sunning themselves in the sand and surf.

this photo is totally overexposed--and i even manually metered it, though to be honest, i metered for the foliage not the faces (i know, what was i thinking). those leaves really look great don't they? but i totally love the emotion and expression, so i'm gonna put this photo up anyways. because this is life magical, not life technical.

i'm really getting to love my friends with strangers series. eventually, there will be no more strangers to be friends with, and i'll have to start a friends with friends series. soon enough my friend. or stranger, as the case may be, though not for long!

is it really geeky of me to get off on the colors in this photo? am i being a total photo nerd? it's nothing brilliant, but like an ice cream cone on a hot summer day, it tickles my tummy in just the right spot. okay, gimme the pocket protector already. and the glasses, with the tape. and the slide rule. astrolabe anyone?

apparently, my newest craft has become dioramas. or as felix my neighbor calls 'em, dinoramas. except there are no dinosaurs (yet). it's sort of amazing to me what can be done with a little cardboard, craft paper, spray adhesive, a hot glue gun and a razor. oh, and plenty of imagination. lots and lots of that.
the characters are actually the most daunting part of the crafting process for me right now. you can sort of tell, because i leave that until last. and it always seems to take me two tries to get them right. the first one ends up being too big and gangly, and this turtle was no exception.
i had actually finished him up and glued him into place, but i definitely felt a twinge of something. uncertainty, or maybe it was the beers i'd had. after sleeping on it, i woke up the next day and was immediately certain that he was wrong for the piece. not only is he too big, he's also a little bit ugly and somewhat mean looking. don't tell him though, it would break his heart. so i got my supplies out and made his little brother, and now all is right in the world again.

my nieces and nephew are the cutest thing since the japanese invented anime. i started reading to them last week, which they really seemed to love. ever since then, we have story time whenever we get the chance. they get a kick out of reading with the strangest voices. sometimes i can't even understand what they're saying, those fools. i have no clue where they get it from. seriously. don't look at me like that.

weddings section update

i've revamped my weddings section to provide a more cohesive experience. the slideshow has been split up into parts for easier viewing and i've included more information for couples who are looking to hire me as their wedding photographer. i've received a huge amount of rave and praise at the weddings i've shot this year, and i'm very excited by these upcoming months. if you know of anyone who'll be getting married within this next year, please take a minute to let them know about life magical. thank you!
