i sat in the audience of three or four hundred attendees, her words resonating in my ear. "fall in love with love," she said. she had a disarming simplicity when she spoke. she was clear and concise and full of sweetness, like mom. my heart melted and it made sense. and the answers to my questions started to discover themselves.

jr's work will change the world.
i've known of him for a while, and i'm constantly amazed at how much he keeps pushing the boundaries of his work. he's gone from actions in europe to travels in rough & rowdy parts of the world (africa right now). all with a heart to connect people. amazing!

friends with strangers

a new italian restaurant (il passatore) opened recently in the neighborhood, literally a minute away. i found out a friend works there, so i dropped by to hang out. that's where i met rob and his friends (tom and jane were too shy for a photo). rob was awesome as hell. the food and atmosphere are very nice, though the space is a little small. rob polished off his plate of salmon pasta with the focaccia bread. literally cleaned. AND room for dessert. two. i had two peronis, the chocolate torte, a shot of sambuca, and some moscattoo. oooh i love moscato.

friends with strangers at sweet ups

the "friends with strangers" spirit really comes alive when hanging out with x. he has a preternatural gift and desire for getting to know people which is silly and infectious. so we went to sweet ups, a local bar that i stumbled across recently. i love the place! the decor rocks, i get great bounced light for my flash. and the bartenders are pretty damn cool.

i've recently developed a new post processing technique where i temporarily discard the color information, leaving only shades of gray. this simplifies the photograph, allowing me to focus on light levels and balance. i'll then play with the tonalities much more liberally than i have before. i find that i'm evenning out the tones of the photograph more. while the new technique is more time-consuming, it makes a huge difference in the quality of the photos.
