john and annmarie are the sweetest things in the world. underneath all their bristle and attitude, there's a world of honey and butter. she got this commemorative smashed penny for him. i figure that's how most everyone is, like a smashed commemorative penny full of love and longing and it's only after you've been crushed by the stiff gears of life that the love really shows through.

celina asked if i'd be interested in shooting hector's band, 40 below summer, at the starland ballroom in jersey. my policy is shoot first, ask questions later, so of course i was down. the only thing i knew about his band before arriving at the show was to stay away from the gate, lest you get trampled. eh, sounds good to me.
at the ballroom, i found myself surrounded by metalheads and tattoos galore. definitely a different crowd from peaches at the highline ballroom, which i shot a little while back. everyone was super nice though, even along the mosh circle. a complete gallery of photos will be coming shortly. i've gotta try and rush off to upstate new york right now.
and don't think i've forgotten about everyone who's hit me up from otakon. i'll contact you soon. i got a train to catch right now though.

roaming round the streets of new york with swifty. stumbled across a hip hop cd release party for eternia. caught the end of her performance, which was short but sweet. we then took off and came across an iran/afghan party. made some quick friends, snapped a few, then called it a night.

it was my third year at otakon helping xavier with his business. x keeps talking about finishing up his music and getting out of the con business. fortunately for people who frequent otakon, he's still around and doing what he does. because really, what other booth is as much fun as the grand illumination? ain't nobody do it the way we do it. will he be back for next year's otakon? who knows. we can always roll the dice. either way, keep in touch..

s(p)ittin' on the mic

so i'm sitting in my kitchen processing through the photos from otakon when i hear a strange sound from outside. it's like a weird modulated siren or something. i walk to the window, look out, and notice the landlady's kid down below. he's got a mic and it's plugged into an amp and he's got the reverb on, some flange effect twisting his words, giving it a strange echo. he says some random things and then he stands up and puts the mic in his pants and farts into it. you can hear just the little bit of a sputter. he then sits back down and gets stupid on the mic again. let that be a lesson to you. i'm not sure what the lesson is, but let that be one.

luna loon at otakon

back from otakon. the trip from baltimore to philly to newyork was mostly uneventful, though exhausting. it ain't easy lugging a big bag of tees and my equipment around. those subway stairs kill me sometimes. i'll put up photos from otakon after i've had a chance to catch my breath and some zzz's.
