travelling throughout the country, my eye is drawn to repeating shapes and colors. everything else is either very distinct or melts and becomes a wash of color and identity. there pass by rows upon rows of pre-fab houses or green crops or sitting vehicles or construction equipment or lonely traffic cones.

a surprisingly historic feeling town, indianapolis is filled with big monuments and important seeming buildings. there's also a pervading air of segregation about, people slightly hesitant to make eye contact and say hello. i've heard that the kkk has moved their headquarters to indianapolis, though i've not confirmed this.

this is what i'm here in indiana for. i don't normally get so excited by the anime conventions i go to, but walking through the convention center and seeing all the games has gotten my inner gamer a little excited. apparently, gary gygax (inventor of the original dungeons & dragons) is the premiere guest at gencon. yea, i know, i'm a geek.

end of day

the sunlight was spectacular at the end of saturday, streaming in the entrance of the rosemont convention center. it cast long shadows, thick with contrast and reflected off the windows onto the cars and trees on the opposite side. everything was so beautifully lit, it made end of day that much nicer.
got a little rest today, though we're headed straight off to gencon in illinois or indiana or someplace. i hope i have at least another day to give my body some rest. i really need it.

one of the great pleasures of working at these conventions is seeing the sheer innocence of some of the kids who pass through. there's a joy and a belief, a magic and a spark that's very real and tangible to them still. i hope i can meet each of the kids in this photo ten years down the line and still get them to pose with their fake weapons and their real smiles.
being sick and exhausted like i've been, it's been hard for me to spread my magic and capture life like i normally do. so looking back through the few photos i've managed to snap these past few days is reinspiring me. thanks everyone for your well wishes.
